The canoes are stowed, the seine nets are dry, and another amazing summer camp season has come to a close.

This summer, the Arundel Rivers education team spent three months out in the field bringing watershed education to life for campers across our rivers. From seine netting at Camp Letts, to action projects with the Marshall Hope Learning Center, to shoreline habitat studies at West River Center, and so much more—more than 1,000 local youth got a true hands-on experience with our rivers. They explored the challenges our waterways face, the work it takes to restore them, and the hope we share for a cleaner, healthier future.

We focus on making each lesson and activity right for the youth engaging with it. Our programs are standards-aligned, adjusted for different ages and learning abilities, and, if we’re honest, focused on kids and adults both having a lot of fun! You can’t love what you don’t know– and you also can’t love what you find tedious and boring. We know our rivers are anything but. Our job is to make the connection– to help our youth not just understand our watersheds intellectually, but to love them, to lean on them, and to find peace and purpose within them.

This programming would not have been possible without the generous support of the Brick Companies, Bev and Steve Marcus, the Chesapeake Bay Trust, BGE, and individual supporters like you.
