Arundel Rivers Federation is excited to celebrate the start of construction on a long-awaited restoration project in the Harness Creek Overlook community.
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, we joined Maryland State Delegate Dana Jones, the Harness Creek Overlook community, and project funding and construction partners for a ceremonial groundbreaking marking a major milestone for water quality in Annapolis.
This $465,000 project will transform an outdated stormwater retention pond into a nature-based wetland and step pool system that slows, filters, and treats runoff before it reaches Harness Creek, the South River, and the Chesapeake Bay. Once complete, the project will prevent an estimated 64 tons of sediment each year from entering local waterways—supporting clearer water and healthier habitat.
Launched in 2022, this project is the result of strong collaboration among Arundel Rivers Federation, the Harness Creek Overlook community, the City of Annapolis, the State of Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, with design by BayLand Consultants & Designers and construction by Meadville Land Service.
Stay tuned for updates on this project and others!
