Harness Creek is one of the South River's most popular spots for recreation. With our Harness Creek Overlook pond retrofit project, Arundel Rivers is excited to continue restoration efforts that will bring cleaner water to this creek and the broader South River!

We have been working with the Harness Creek Overlook community for many years now, seeking design funding, then designing, seeking construction funding, and now the most fun part– construction!

This project will consist of a retrofit of the stormwater management pond to current standards so it is able to more efficiently collect and treat stormwater runoff. It will also include installation of a step pool stormwater conveyance to slow and treat stormwater entering Harness Creek and the South River and aims to improve water quality and halt erosion.

This project's design was funded through Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Anne Arundel County Watershed Restoration grant program in partnership with the City of Annapolis and designed by BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc.

After a few years of attempts Arundel Rivers has secured construction funding from the same Chesapeake Bay Trust Anne Arundel County Watershed Restoration grant program in partnership with the City of Annapolis as well as a Legislative Bond Initiative sponsored by Delegate Dana Jones.

In 2021, Arundel Rivers partnered with Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks to create the Caffrey Run stream restoration within Quiet Waters Park.

This new Harness Creek project will tie in nicely with the completed Caffrey Run stream restoration at Quiet Waters to bolster the health of Harness Creek. Stay tuned for the progression of this project and make sure you check out the Caffrey Run stream restoration next time you walk the Pavilion Trail at Quiet Waters Park!
