The Riverkeeper boats are officially pulled for the season, but that doesn't mean our water quality work is done! Now begins the long process of data analysis. While we wait for lab results and create/refine excel formulas, our Riverkeeper Department has done a deep dive into the over 25 bacteria monitoring sites we tested this past summer. New this year, we started collecting additional data including tides, previous rainfall, and temperature. It's too early to see trends, but we have found some really interesting takeaways. For example, almost 90% of our failed samples occurred after a rain event. This is a great reminder of why we should follow the "golden rules" of swimming in our waterways which includes "don't swim after a rain event." Check out more take-aways and data summaries on our Arundel Rivers Bacteria Report.
