Happy 449th Legislative Session!

There are a lot of shake ups this year in the general assembly, including new committees, changes in committee topics, and new leadership – a great opportunity for everyone to reintroduce themselves and their priorities to all the legislative members. Although it seems that affordable housing will again be a major topic discussed this session, all housing topics will now be heard in the Economic Matters committee of the House as opposed to Environment & Transportation. Despite the many changes, Arundel Rivers legislative priority remains the same this year - fighting for a Budget that safeguards the health of our communities and advances the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and its waterways.

As we dive deeper into session and bill hearings, Arundel Rivers will strive to keep our members and supporters updated on opportunities for engagement. Check your inboxes and our social media page over the next two months for sign on opportunities or instructions on how you can advocate for certain bills and efforts that will better protect our waterways and local lands. There are multiple upcoming events to mark on your calendars if you want to learn more about this year's environmental priorities and how to become more involved.

The 2026 Maryland Environmental Legislative Summit is being held on Wednesday, January 28 at 4:30PM in the Miller Senate Office Building. This is an opportunity to join the Environmental Community to learn about our 2026 Environmental legislative priorities, hear from elected officials, community leaders, and connect with your neighbors about environmental issues affecting all Marylanders.

Want to learn more about how to become more engaged in your local and state advocacy efforts? Join me at the Watershed Stewards Academy Annual Spring Into Action Conference on February 28th, where I will be presenting with fellow advocate and friend Jesse Illif  to learn how you can influence local policy to help bring about a healthier environment. This session will cover the basics of Anne Arundel and state policy, intended for “beginners” interested in learning how to become stronger civic advocates.

See you in the halls of Annapolis,
