***UPDATE-July 14, 2015:
Thank you to everyone who added their name to our letter urging the County to address the closure of the Discovery Village boat ramp in South County.
With more than 370 community members signing on, it’s clear just how deeply public access matters to the people in our communities. The letter has been submitted—stay tuned for updates as we continue to advocate for solutions.
Dear River Supporters,
At Arundel Rivers Federation, we believe that equitable public access to our waters should be a priority. We have a vision of healthy waterways for all – which includes access to those waterways for all. With the recent closure of the public boat ramp at Discovery Village it has been made clear that South County residents have far too few options to access our public waters.
Without Discovery Village, many in South County will have to drive more than an hour just to launch a boat at one of the free county ramps. In a county with more than 500 miles of shoreline and a deep maritime heritage, we think this is unacceptable.
We’ve drafted a letter to the County Executive, the County Council, and the Department of Recreation and Parks urging them to take swift and lasting action to protect public water access in South County and beyond. But we need your voice, too.
Join us in speaking up by adding your name to our letter by Monday, July 14. Your support will show our county leaders that residents care deeply about protecting access to our shared waters—for boating, fishing, crabbing and more.
Thank you and we'll see you on the water,

Elle Bassett
